Women's Professional Golf in Kansas City!
The Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship of Kansas City presented by
Zurich returns to Leawood South Country Club May 16-18, 2008. It’s the second
year for this Duramed FUTURES Tour event, which features women golfers from
around the world, working hard to play their way onto the LPGA Tour.
The Duramed FUTURES Tour was acquired by the LPGA in 2007. Founded in 1981, the
Duramed FUTURES Tour’s role has been to develop and prepare women for the LPGA.
Since 1999, the top money winners on the Duramed FUTURES Tour have earned an
LPGA Tour card. The Duramed FUTURES Tour has been the largest international
developmental tour and the second largest women's golf tour in the world,
featuring over 300 players from 31 nations, playing 18-20 tournaments each year
in cities across the country.
In the past 27 years, more than 300 Duramed FUTURES Tour alumnae have attained
LPGA Tour membership. In total, they represent 329 LPGA victories, including 35
major championships. Duramed FUTURES Tour alumnae include the LPGA’s reigning
Player of the Year and Ricoh Women’s British Open Champion Lorena Ochoa,
Seon-Hwa Lee, Julieta Granada, Karrie Webb, Grace Park, Christina Kim and 2007
U.S. Women’s Open Champion Cristie Kerr. The 2007 LPGA Rolex Rookie of the
Year, Angela Park, is also a “graduate” of the Duramed FUTURES Tour.
Liz Janangelo, the winner of the inaugural Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City
Championship, has earned her LPGA Tour card for 2008, along with runner-up
Emily Bastel, so a different golfer will be holding the trophy this year.
More than just a professional golf tournament.
